MILWAKE, Wis. -- Wisconsin Sen. Charles Hastert, a Republican who represents Milwaukee, said Wednesday that he was "very disappointed" with an increase in the price of prescription drugs.
He said that if the state passed a law requiring more than 1,200 more drugs to be covered by insurance, he would take a hard look at what's out there.
He said he's just disappointed because that's how it works.
Hastert, a state representative from Milwaukee, said that the price for the drugs he bought for his family is actually lower than other states.
"It's just not a good deal," he said, adding that he's worried about what he's seeing as the overall cost of the drugs he purchased.
"I think it's a terrible deal. We have to be very careful in terms of how we cover what we need," Hastert said. "The more drugs we have, the better the deal."
The price for a prescription drug is a factor, said Hastert, who is chairman of the Wisconsin Senate Committee on Aging.
The price for Viagra, for example, is about $1,500, he said. But he said that's not what he's paying for.
He said that's not fair, that it's not appropriate, and that the price for some of his other drugs may be different, such as pain relievers.
It's important that the state of Wisconsin gets into a position to pay for those drugs, Hastert said.
